Moving quietly along the narrow mangrove channels, stopping to listen and look for the birds and animal life that call the mangroves home. If you are lucky you can observe the shy proboscis monkey. (Only found in Borneo) Our guide will explain the mangrove ecology and some of the diversity of plant and animal life in the tangle of mangroves, vines, palms and trees. The boat returns to the center of Bandar Seri Begawan stopping along the way to visit a local house to have morning or afternoon tea.

Water Village

The early European visitors to Brunei named this the “Venice of the East” and Kampong Ayer or the Water Village continues to be a popular attraction to tourists and local alike. Visitors and locals take the ‘Water Taxis’ across the water to reach this amazing place. The Water taxis are actually speedboats which are used to ferry you across the river at such an accelerated speed that your heart seemingly jumps out of the body whenever it hit hits a waive from other boats.

Brunei Bay contains one of the largest tracts of relatively undisturbed mangrove forest in eastern Asia. The mangrove forests support significant populations of the Proboscis Monkey (Nasalis larvatus) and leaf monkeys (Presbytis sp), as well as large colonies of flying foxes (Pieropus vampyrus).
