Prevent Lung Cancer with Regular Screening

Lung cancer has consistently been the number one killer among all cancers in Singapore over the last three decades. It is also one of the hardest cancers to treat, as it tend to spread rapidly through the lymphatic and blood vessels very early into its course, to other parts of the body such as the liver, bone and the brain.

The problem with lung cancer is that it is mostly diagnosed only in the later stages amongst the middle-aged and elderly population. However, if detected early, chances of successful treatment outcomes can be improved tremendously.

Routine lung cancer screening and check-ups are the best means for early detection. Those with a family history of lung cancer are at a higher risk and hence should begin screening at an earlier age.

Most symptoms of lung cancer are non-specific and it is possible for the patient to experience none of the symptoms at the time of diagnosis.
